Heat is lost into the air every day. Manufacturing, drying, cooking and chilling processes, buildings like hospitals and offices, and infrastructure give off excess heat. However, this heat can be captured and reused by heat pumps, especially in industries like food and drinks, paper and pulp and chemicals. This can lower energy costs, improve energy security, and boost competitiveness by reducing reliance on expensive fossil fuels.
Industrial heat pumps are part of a European clean tech sector, ready and deployable today and able to reach temperatures of up to 180-200°C, providing about 10% of industry’s total final energy demand – around 2,000 TWh.
At this event, we’ll explore how waste heat is already being used across Europe, the positive impact it’s having, and what steps are needed to make waste heat recovery more common.
